Musings on a Saturday Morning
“You have to write the book that wants to be written. And if the book will be too difficult for grown-ups, then you write it for children.”
― Madeleine L’Engle
I’ve just started teaching Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird to year 10. Set 1 are enjoying it. My colleagues set 2, find it hard and are bucking against it as a text.
I don’t think I will tell my set one what L’Engle has said. I shall just be glad 🙂
A tricky book to put across. It operates on several different levels.
Sometimes I wish her sentences had been shorter. Too many semi colons!! Reading it aloud can be tough
Great for breath-control exercises!
